The proposed block is designed to reflect the design of two neighboring houses down the Limpsfield Rd. Double gable arrangement helps breaking down the mass of the proposal and creates an emotionally readable feeling of a semi – detached house or even a detached property. The proposal concludes the double gable arrangement run at the street junction while creating a slight dominant by being raised higher and a break in cat slide roof elements to give the gables a bit more vertical feel.
The site is a corner plot along Limpsfield Road. The existing house addresses the corner situation by angling the house towards the junction which is the only crossing within the setting to use the principle of angling the building towards road corner which is why it is not considered a common approach.
Reviewing used materiality along the adjacent street fronts, render and red brick are found to be the most used materials. Soldier course headers on the rendered parts of elevations are reflecting the neighbours headers while being solved in painted brickwork to make the elevations feel more calming. Red brick at the ground floor creates a visual base which wraps around the building. Darker brick at the ground floor banding around is commonly applied on the developments opposite the Limpsfield Rd, No.549 & Harewood Court.
